FAQs for Ultra

Q: Why should I consider Ultra versus battery-powered Classic or Adventurer Opti?
— Asked on January 17, 2014
A: SteriPEN Ultra provides the best value for your dollar if you will have access to AC power or recharging capability every 3-4 days and you can carry a little extra weight. Ultra has an internal rechargeable battery that will last the life of the product so you won't have the expense of purchasing disposable batteries. Check our blog in February 2014 for recommended external batteries and solar charging accessories.
Q: Are the usb adapter and ac adapter included with Ultra?
— Asked on January 17, 2014
A: Ultra comes with the micro-USB cable included. It does not include the ac adapter. You can purchase an ac adapter very inexpensively at a local merchant. The ac adapter required is very common and you may all ready have one in your home if you have a smart phone or other electronic devices that utilize USB.
Q: What voltages of power does Ultra charge from?
— Asked on January 17, 2014

This question has not yet been responded to.

Q: How much water can be treated at one time? Quart, gallon, pint?
— Asked by Jerry Rembold on January 24, 2014
A: All SteriPEN UV water purifiers treat up to one liter of water at a time.
Q: Does it treat hot water/drinks and ice cubes?
— Asked by Kristen on February 18, 2014
A: We do not recommend purifying mixed drinks with SteriPEN, nor ice cubes. Our suggestion is that if you are worried about contaminated water, stick to drinking water and perhaps bring your own Cool-Aid, Tang powder to flavor your water following purification.
Q: I realize UV is less effective in cold water. So if I treat a glass of water containing ice a few times would it work? Many thanks. Regards Haroon
— Asked by Haroon on March 31, 2014
A: UV purification is actually not less effective in cold water. The issue is with treating water with ice cubes in it. It is possible that harmful microbes might not be affected by the UV light if they are located behind the ice cubes. Cold water can be successfully treated, just make sure there are no ice cubes in the glass.
Q: My Journey malfunctions intermittently with a flashing unhappy face circle and unhappy face battery display. Sometimes it works OK and sometimes it gets set up with the 1L indicator but as soon as I put it in the water the unhappy faces come up. What's the story here? Thanks, Nat
— Asked by nat crosman on April 12, 2014
A: Hi Nat, The reason for the unhappy face when you place the Journey in water is dependent on where you are seeing it. If you don't have the User Guide that came with your SteriPeN, you can find it here: http://www.steripen.com/journey-user-guide. Please feel free to contact our customer support department at [email protected]
Q: I've loved my SteriPEN Adventure Opti for about 2 years, but have only used it about 30-40 times. When I started use this year, it responds as normal with a green light, then flashing green as well as flashing LED next to the UV light. The UV light doesn't seem to be lighting though. How can I verify it's working? What manufacturer warranties are on my pen?
— Asked by Micah Christiansen on April 14, 2014
A: Hi Micah - The indicators you describe sound like your Adventurer Opti is functioning normally. If you need no longer have your User Guide and need help remember the how the indicator lights work, you can find a copy of the instructions here: www.steripen.com/opti-user-guide. For safety reasons, the UV light will not turn on until it is placed in water. If you are unsure that it is lighting in water, we recommend placing it in a clear glass, possibly dimming the lights so that the light from the lamp is easily observed. If then you believe it isn't on, please contact our customer support department at 888-826-6234. Your SteriPEN comes with a 3-year warrantee and we are here to help!
